Chapter 3

Go ahead, set off your firecrackers. I hope the blast wipes out your whole family!

I wasn’t worried in the slightest.

Living Dead. As the name suggests, it refers to a person who is dead yet remains among the living.

When my grandmother gave birth to my mother, she died from complications during labor. By all rights, my mother should have died in her womb as well.

However, after three days in the mortuary, my mother actually started crying from inside my grandmother’s belly.

When they cut the stomach open, they discovered that my mother was somehow still alive.

Later, someone who knew a bit about the occult said that my mother was technically already a dead person. It was only because my grandmother couldn’t bear to let her go that she had physically pushed her back from the clutches of the King of Hell.

Having returned from the dead, my mother could see things ordinary people couldn’t from the time she was a child. Furthermore, her fortune could never be read.

She was someone who was supposed to be dead; how could she have a predestined fate in the world of the living?

Since I was born from my mother, I naturally inherited this eerie constitution.

This family trying to perform a life‑borrowing ritual on us was nothing short of a death wish.

I didn’t have a “life” to begin with; I was merely one of the Living Dead.

Not only would that Old Woman fail to borrow any life for her grandson, but she was in for a streak of horrific luck!

Sure enough, it didn’t take more than a few days for disaster to strike that family.

First, the Old Woman’s husband fell out of bed while sleeping soundly and broke his leg.

Then, the grandson they doted on so much developed a high fever and suffered from constant nightmares in the middle of the night.

Seeing her precious grandson suffering, the Old Woman spent all day wailing and howling like she was at a funeral.

She thought that by borrowing a life for her grandson, he wouldn’t have to step foot in a hospital for at least six months to a year. Now that he was back in the hospital within days, how could she possibly accept it?

Taking advantage of the moment I stepped out to buy groceries, the whole family blocked my doorway.

The daughter-in-law was cradling the child in her arms.

Due to his illness, the boy’s face was pale, and he was drenched in a cold sweat.

“Was this your doing?!”

The Old Woman pointed her finger directly at my forehead.

With a sharp *ptui*, I spat right on her pointing finger.

They tried to use life‑borrowing on me, and I hadn’t even gone looking for trouble yet, but here they were, delivering themselves to my door?

“You’re the ones committing evil acts, trying to take my life. What’s the matter? Didn’t get it? Did you give your life to me instead? Are you about to die?”

The Old Woman was so livid she looked like she was having a heart attack. Her pointing finger trembled uncontrollably.

She couldn’t find her words for a long time.

Seeing that I was sharp-tongued, she simply resorted to being a complete hooligan and plopped her backside down right in front of my door.

“It’s your fault! My precious grandson is still sick! Before we tried to borrow your life, he was perfectly healthy!

“It’s all your fault. This isn’t over-you have to pay for my grandson’s medical bills!”

I’ve seen all sorts of people and ghosts, but this was the first time I’d encountered someone so shamelessly unreasonable.

“How much do you want?”

Hearing this, the Old Woman thought I was intimidated by their numbers. Her eyes darted around greedily.

She flipped her palm over, opening her mouth for a lion’s share.

“My precious grandson has suffered so much. Thirty thousand yuan isn’t too much, is it?”

“You thought nine hundred could buy three years of my life, and now you have the gall to try and extort thirty thousand?!

“Why don’t you just go die, you old hag? You’re dreaming! If you ask me, your grandson is being tormented by your own actions. You’ve done too many wicked things!”

I mocked her with a cold sneer.

Upon hearing my words, the whole family bristled.

Especially the Old Woman’s son; he glared at me with a dark, somber expression.

The group began to close in around me.
