Chapter 10
Chapter 10
A few days later, I saw that Old Woman downstairs again, lively as ever, playing with her precious grandson.
I say “playing,” but in reality, the Little Brat was just bullying a little girl.
He was tugging at the girl’s braids with one hand while grabbing a fistful of sand with the other and dumping it over her head.
The little girl’s mother came running over with a bottle of water, quickly pulling her sobbing daughter into her arms to comfort her.
Fearing she’d be held accountable, the Old Woman tried to slip away with her grandson while the mother was busy soothing the terrified child.
I lunged forward, blocking their path.
“Hey, neighbor. Where are you off to?”
The Old Woman glared at me with her shifty, triangular eyes. “What business is it of yours?”
She tried to pull her grandson along to make a quick escape.
By then, the little girl’s mother had realized what was happening and immediately called her husband over.
The Old Woman wasn’t about to let her family come out on the losing end. She immediately started wailing like she was at a funeral.
“Good heavens! It’s just two kids playing around, isn’t it? Why don’t you just take my old life and be done with it!
“She’s just a little slip of a girl, and my grandson was only playing with her. Is all this really necessary?!
“This is pure bullying! Is there no justice left in the world!”
“I saw it with my own eyes-your precious grandson grabbed sand and threw it on that girl’s head,”
I chimed in coldly from the side. I was more than happy to make things difficult for her.
“Shut up, you wretched girl! You’re in league with them, aren’t you? Teaming up to bully an old woman and her grandson!
“Xiaobao, quick, start crying! Let everyone see how these people are bullying us!”
As she spoke, she gave her grandson a shove.
But the kid had been spoiled rotten; there was no way he was going to be obedient. Seeing his grandmother being “bullied,” he curled his lip and suddenly charged at the little girl like a rabid dog.
“You brat! How dare you let your parents bully my grandma!”
He lashed out, using the sharp edge of a small toy card in his hand to swipe at the girl’s face.
A child’s skin is naturally delicate; a bloody scratch appeared on the little girl’s face instantly.
My heart shuddered at the sight. To be so malicious at such a young age!
He went straight for her face!
But the girl’s parents weren’t about to stand idly by. Enraged, they refused to let the matter drop.
Unfortunately for them, what goes around comes around.
As it turned out, the little girl’s father was actually the Little Brat’s father’s boss. Having been blessed with a daughter late in life, he doted on her immensely.
How could he possibly agree to settle this peacefully?
He fired the father on the spot. Even if he had to pay severance, he wanted him gone.
The family slunk back home in disgrace.
I followed quietly behind them with a bag of plums, watching them like they were monkeys in a circus.
“Mom, you spoil Xiaobao too much. I finally got a promotion and a raise, and now look!”
Hearing this, the Old Woman was displeased.
“What! Are you saying you’d rather let our Xiaobao suffer just for the sake of a job?
“I won’t have it! Besides, doesn’t our family have the ancestors’ protection now? Listen to me-strike out on your own. Start a business!”
The Little Brat’s father’s eyes lit up at the suggestion.
“Right! I’ll be my own boss. With the ancestors protecting us anyway, I’m bound to make a fortune!”
Seeing her son catch on, the Old Woman’s mood improved significantly.
“And tell your wife to stop that hussy job of hers! Have her come back and be your assistant. When you go out to talk business, you’ll need a secretary or an assistant!”
His wife looked reluctant when she heard this.
“Mom, I made nearly twenty thousand in commissions this month!”
The Old Woman glared at her with those triangular eyes as if she wanted to eat her alive.
“Don’t you know how you earned that money? If it weren’t for our ancestors protecting you, you wouldn’t have earned a damn cent!”
I couldn’t hear what else they had to say after that; they stepped into the elevator, and I couldn’t follow them in.
Want to do business? Want the ancestors’ protection? Want to be a big boss?
Heh, keep dreaming.
I’ll make sure to “protect” you tonight!

After the Neighbor Borrowed My Life
Over the weekend, while I was out grocery shopping, someone shoved a red envelope into my hand.
Inside was a note: [Three years of your life have been borrowed. If you pass this on or drop...
