Chapter 4

President Xie, back in his suit, didn’t look away from his iPad once during breakfast. It was as if anything on the internet was more important than the living person sitting across from him.

The hangover soup I had woken up early to brew sat untouched by his hand, slowly growing cold.

Looking at his calm, indifferent face, I suddenly wanted to ask: *Do you want honey water instead?*

“Chen Cheng told me about what happened last night. She only brought me home once before when I’d had too much at a business dinner. Don’t overthink it.”

He finally looked up at me, his tone so natural and open that it felt as though any further persistence on my part would be unreasonable.

I stirred my congee spoon by spoon, but I had no appetite. “Why do you always take a secretary who can’t drink to business dinners?”

“She’s just a young girl. Why would I make her drink?”

His protectiveness was all too obvious.

I gave a self-deprecating smile, wondering if he still remembered that when I used to help him win over clients, I was just a young girl, too.

The stomach I had ruined back then still couldn’t handle spicy food. I’d had to give up everything I once loved, one by one.

He frowned slightly, walked over, and kissed me.

“Be good. Don’t let your mind wander. I’m going on a business trip next week, from the 7th to the 9th. Can you help me pack my bags?”

“The 7th to the 9th?” I looked up at him, hoping almost pathetically that he would remember that one of those three days was my birthday.

But he just checked his watch. “I’m heading to work.”
