Chapter 2
Chapter 2
It was Xie Mingchen’s new secretary who brought him home that night.
She struggled to support the drunken Xie Mingchen, standing at the threshold. “Sis, excuse me, let me help President Xie to the sofa.”
Since I stepped down from the company, I haven’t kept up with personnel changes, and no one had told me his secretary had been replaced by such a young girl.
The position of executive secretary is considered a senior management role.
I remembered Xie Mingchen’s previous secretary-an overseas graduate with five years of experience. Their professionalism went without saying, and they were more than capable of handling social drinking. At the very least, they never allowed their boss to get plastered.
“Please don’t blame him. It’s all my fault because I can’t hold my liquor. President Xie only ended up like this because he was protecting me.”
Chen Cheng’s expression as she explained was the very picture of sincerity.
I felt like laughing.
The boss taking drinks for the secretary, the secretary speaking up for the boss-this level of mutual care was enough to be a submission for a workplace romance novel.
If only the man involved wasn’t my boyfriend.
But I wasn’t about to lose my temper with a young girl. I just nodded, thanked her politely, and prepared to see her out.
Chen Cheng didn’t leave, however. She gazed at the moaning Xie Mingchen on the sofa, looking deeply worried.
“Is there something else?”
“President Xie’s stomach must be upset after drinking. You should make him some warm honey water to soothe it.”
The blatant concern in her eyes made it seem as though I were the incompetent one.
I brushed her off casually. “We don’t have any in the house.”
“You do, you do.” Chen Cheng acted as naturally as if she were the mistress of the house. “In the second compartment of the top kitchen cabinet, there’s a large jar!”
I smiled. “Oh? You’ve been here before?”
