I died, and this time, Qi Jie didn’t shed a single tear.
I don’t know when it started, but Qi Jie no longer grieved over me. While friends and family wiped tears at my funeral, he held my portrait, calm as a breeze.
I thought, the more loops there were, the clearer it became that his love for me was actually minimal.
Even though we’d been together for ten years, I was just a disposable ex-girlfriend in his life. His true love must be the female lead who hadn’t appeared yet.
At the funeral, my good friends couldn’t help but accuse him: “How can you be so heartless? Yian didn’t deserve this—she could have chosen better!”
Qi Jie replied indifferently: “Let her choose someone else, then. That’d be best.”
“…”
My friends muttered about checking if he’d bought life insurance on me.
Seeing Qi Jie’s nonchalant demeanor, I finally decided: when I woke up in three days, the first thing I’d do was break up with him.
After the funeral, Qi Jie went home, zoned out on the sofa for a while, then got up and went to the kitchen to make instant noodles.
He turned on the faucet—no water. He turned and shouted to the living room: “Yian, the water’s out again—”
I froze, and so did he.
Then the idiot lay on the bed, dry-crunching a pack of instant noodles.
He scrolled through photos of me on his phone.
The atmosphere turned somber, like a male lead reminiscing about his white moonlight.
But the next second, we both realized his album had 3,000 ugly photos of me.
The vibe shattered into nothing.
The hit-and-run driver’s family flew back from abroad.
This time, the culprit was an underage boy driving without a license. The car owner was his older sister.
When I floated behind Qi Jie into the mediation room, the boy’s parents were tearfully begging my parents for forgiveness.
A white figure dropped to her knees in front of Qi Jie with a thud.
I looked down—a beautiful woman, crying like a storm.
“I’m sorry, it’s my brother’s fault. I’m sorry, he’s still so young…”
Qi Jie remained unmoved.
The beauty wiped her tears, her nose red: “Of course, my brother did wrong and should take responsibility. We didn’t raise him right. I’m sorry! But he really didn’t mean to.”
Qi Jie frowned and countered: “Your brother didn’t mean to—does that mean my girlfriend meant to die?”
“…”
The beauty composed herself, stood up, and handed him her business card: “If you have any compensation demands, contact me anytime. My name is Meng Ling.”
I sized her up.
Qi Jie stared at her too, not reaching for the card.
The scene stalled.
Until I suddenly heard the familiar voice—the system, echoing and mechanical, notifying Qi Jie—
“Your female lead is now online.”
…
What a cheap plot twist.
Qi Jie took her card, then tore it in half the next second.
Meng Ling took a deep breath, unfazed: “I’ll contact you myself.”
Qi Jie stayed stone-faced: “See you in court.”
Meng Ling helped her parents up and brushed past Qi Jie.
I glanced at her, then at him, feeling the world spin.
It was now noon on the third day after my death, 12 p.m.
Normally, I’d have 12 more hours before starting my 100th loop, returning to one month before the accident.
But now I realized I could never go back.
Qi Jie’s female lead had appeared. His life was moving forward.
What about mine?
My life—having truly lived over 20 years—reduced to a side character in someone else’s story, tagged as a cannon fodder white moonlight, lingering in the male lead’s memories as a hollow illusion.
