Chapter 6
Chapter 6
Once I actually got down to it, I realized just how simple it was to spark a man’s jealousy.
Lately, the frequency of my meetings with Jiang Zhihui had been increasing steadily, to say nothing of our constant messaging. It wasn’t just during class, and we didn’t only talk about Gu Jingshen; most of the time, it was just idle chatter. He had a subtle sense of dark humor that I really enjoyed.
After reading his latest message, I couldn’t help but smile as I tapped out a reply on my screen.
Gu Jingshen set down his knife and fork, the utensils clattering softly. I didn’t even seem to notice when he got up and walked over to stand behind me-but how could that be? Everything was going exactly according to plan.
He braced one hand on the edge of the table and leaned down, almost completely enveloping me in his shadow. “Who is it?”
“Just a friend I met a few months ago,” I said, my expression remaining neutral. “I had a low blood sugar episode on the side of the road last time, and he was kind enough to bring me back.”
“A… friend.” Gu Jingshen repeated the word softly. “Was it him at the bar that day, too?”
“Yes.”
“Why didn’t you call me?”
I hesitated before answering. “I did. You said you were busy.”
Gu Jingshen fell silent for a moment.
I waved the screen toward him, a hint of excitement in my voice. “Jingshen, we’ve made plans to go see a movie next week. It’s the one you said you weren’t interested in…”
“…I’ll go with you.”
I love movies; before we got married, I even worked in the film industry. But Gu Jingshen had always considered watching movies a complete waste of time-though perhaps he’d be willing to watch one with Jiang Wan. For the people we love, we only ever worry that we haven’t wasted enough of our time on them.
And now?
My phone vibrated. Professor Jiang had sent another message.
“Same place as usual?”
Gu Jingshen took the phone from my hand. His eyes were dark as he stared at me, his face expressionless as he sent a voice message: “I am Shen Zhaoyi’s husband. There is no need to contact her again.”
Then came the full treatment: delete and block.
My eyes widened.
Jealousy and possessiveness are essential components of love. Gu Jingshen couldn’t… actually be falling for me, could he?
While the stock market was in a freefall, my Marriage Reconciliation Success Rate climbed to an all-time high: 67%.
The day of Jiang Wan’s return was finally drawing near.
