Once I actually got down to it, I realized just how simple it was to spark a man’s jealousy.

Lately, the frequency of my meetings with Jiang Zhihui had been increasing steadily, to say nothing of our constant messaging. It wasn’t just during class, and we didn’t only talk about Gu Jingshen; most of the time, it was just idle chatter. He had a subtle sense of dark humor that I really enjoyed.

“A… friend.” Gu Jingshen repeated the word softly. “Was it him at the bar that day, too?”

“Yes.”

“Why didn’t you call me?”

I hesitated before answering. “I did. You said you were busy.”

Gu Jingshen fell silent for a moment.

I waved the screen toward him, a hint of excitement in my voice. “Jingshen, we’ve made plans to go see a movie next week. It’s the one you said you weren’t interested in…”

“…I’ll go with you.”

I love movies; before we got married, I even worked in the film industry. But Gu Jingshen had always considered watching movies a complete waste of time-though perhaps he’d be willing to watch one with Jiang Wan. My phone vibrated. Professor Jiang had sent another message.

“Same place as usual?”
