Chapter 5
Chapter 5
I have never been confident in my appearance.
Gu Jingshen was never short of beautiful faces around him, not to mention how radiant his “White Moonlight,” Jiang Wan, was. In our seven years of marriage, he had never expressed any appreciation for my looks-as if he ever appreciated me in any other way.
I scrutinized my face. Following Professor Jiang’s advice, I changed my hairstyle, getting my long hair permed into soft waves. I also completely overhauled my daily wardrobe.
That Sunday, in front of the fitting room mirror, Jiang Zhihui stood slightly behind me. Together, we gazed at the transformed woman in the reflection. He said that if my husband remained indifferent, I might as well turn to “other options.”
“I’m sorry, Professor Jiang,” I said, looking him in the eye and answering coldly. “I am not getting a divorce.”
“The two aren’t mutually exclusive,” the professor replied.
He blinked behind his glasses.
Gu Jingshen was certainly a dark, bottomless abyss. But if I fell into the hands of this fox, he would surely eat me alive until there wasn’t even a bone left. Trapped in a death loop, I couldn’t afford to create more trouble for myself.
I gave him a thin, fake smile. “I’ll consider it.” I didn’t have the life to spare to consider it.
In the past, Gu Jingshen was completely blind to any changes I made. Back then, I followed online tutorials and bought a wardrobe full of “good-to-marry” style clothes. Not only did Gu Jingshen ignore me entirely, but Gu Congwen even told me I looked like a walking wedding arch.
This time, things changed.
I stopped messaging him. I stopped ironing his suits. I stopped waiting up for him at a table full of food. I stopped inviting him to fulfill his “marital duties.” I was no longer submissive and cautious.
Surprisingly, he actually asked me to join him for a gathering with his childhood friends.
In countless previous loops, I was either left home alone or stuck in the kitchen cooking for them.
This time, I dressed up and stood by his side at the door. A notorious playboy among his friends looked me up and down, his eyes lingering like hooks as he said with a grin, “Sister-in-law is getting more beautiful by the day.”
Gu Jingshen’s hand, which was resting on my waist, suddenly tightened.
If it were the old “me,” I would have been overwhelmed by the sudden attention. Now, however, I reflexively pulled up the System data.

Good, very good, Jiang Zhihui.
It felt like a shot of adrenaline. Throughout the rest of the party, I exerted every ounce of my charm.
Self-improvement wasn’t just about the superficiality of appearance. With Professor Jiang’s help, I had crammed knowledge about high society and Gu Jingshen’s industry. I worked as hard as a student preparing for an exam, often memorizing books late into the night. Naturally, I no longer had the time to be his full-time maid.
Hard work paid off; I could finally hold my own in their conversations. Come to think of it, before I married Gu Jingshen, I was actually a talkative person-I had even forgotten that myself.
Amidst the flattery and attention from the young heirs, Gu Jingshen sipped his drink nonchalantly while watching me, his gaze deep and inscrutable.
