Chapter 13

“Let’s go to Songhe Tower,” I said, placing my hand over Gu Jingshen’s as he started the car. “I have a sudden craving for Silverfish Soup.”

Jiang Wan’s fingers paused as she buckled her seatbelt. Gu Jingshen glanced at me through the rearview mirror, his brow furrowing slightly.

“I’ve already booked-”

“I want to go there too,” Jiang Wan chimed in, sounding delighted, just as she had that night. “Come to think of it, I haven’t eaten there in seven years.”

And so, he changed course.

At the dinner table, I listened silently to their small talk. It wasn’t until I finished the last of the sweet soup and wiped the corners of my mouth that I calmly announced, “Actually, there’s something I want to tell you both today.”

I pulled a forged medical report from my bag, placed it on the table, and pushed it toward Gu Jingshen. “I have cancer.”

A porcelain spoon clattered into a soup bowl, splashing liquid onto Jiang Wan’s sleeve. The private room fell into a dead silence.

Gu Jingshen flipped through the report, his pupils trembling slightly.

“It’s terminal. The doctor said I have two years at most.” I gave a relaxed smile. “Since I’m a dying woman anyway, I’ll step aside for the two of you.”

With that, I stood up. “I’m going out for some air.”

I waited outside for ten minutes. When I returned, I heard the two of them arguing, just as I had expected.

Gu Jingshen’s voice was low. “I’ll arrange the best medical team for her. You can’t use her illness to punish me.”

“It’s not just because of that. Don’t you understand yet? I didn’t come back to get back together with you. Besides, you are unimaginably cruel and selfish.”

My husband fell silent. Coming from Jiang Wan, that assessment must have felt like a critical hit to his heart.

The marriage recovery rate jumped by 20%.

I smiled coldly. This was almost too easy.

Just as I had planned, Jiang Wan didn’t leave. Instead, she volunteered to stay and help look after me during my recovery.

I wasn’t sick at all; it was all a conspiracy with the doctor-the same one who had forged the miscarriage report in the last loop. His name was Li Jin, a highly educated man with an elegant, gentle temperament. He looked like a much better person than that Professor Jiang.

The moment he saw Jiang Wan accompanying me for my check-up, his eyes lit up. I knew exactly what that signal meant.

Sure enough, Li Jin began to pursue her relentlessly. I didn’t actually think much of him, but looking at him, he seemed to be genuinely putting his heart on the line.

After a few months of back-and-forth, Jiang Wan actually started dating him.

Gu Jingshen naturally found out about this. He turned a page of his book with a calm expression, but the corner of the page was crushed under his grip. I lay down, feigning weakness as I brainwashed him. “I’ve never seen Miss Jiang smile so happily. As long as she’s happy, that’s all that matters.”

My husband remained silent, suffering through a lonely heartbreak that night. I reached out from under the covers and unceremoniously clicked off the light. Turning my back to him, I closed my eyes with a sweet smile on my lips. After all, my success rate had just taken a massive leap upward.
