Chapter 1
Chapter 1
As I signed the Divorce Agreement for the seventh time, a needle-like numbness suddenly pricked my fingertips.
Gu Jingshen stared out the window, his voice cold and impatient as he urged me, “Jiang Wan is waiting.” He wouldn’t even spare me a second glance.
He didn’t know that every second I delayed was a debt borrowed from the Reaper.
I let out a low cough, my body extremely weak from the miscarriage. My voice was soft and fragile. “Is there really no room for compromise? I told you, I can accept you having another family out there. Or Jiang Wan can be the wife in all but name. I can go abroad, go anywhere… just don’t divorce me.”
I looked up at him, my eyes burning and my lips trembling slightly. “I love you, Jingshen.”
I had said those words countless times in countless tones, but not once had they ever moved a man who didn’t love me.
Gu Jingshen lowered his gaze, his eyes holding nothing but a flicker of pity. “Shen Zhaoyi, stop making a scene.”

The System text flickered before my eyes once more.
A sharp, sudden pain exploded in my chest. I clutched the bedsheets, my face deathly pale as I pleaded incoherently, “The baby… for the sake of the baby. I carried her for five months. Our child was already fully formed. Gu Congwen pushed me-”
Only a day ago, she had been safe in my womb. My good little girl, who never troubled her mother-my only living relative who hadn’t even been born yet…
“-How long do you plan to keep making things up? Congwen said you fell on your own.” My husband watched my agony with cold indifference.
He couldn’t see my pain.
Now, there was only a permanent, hollow void in my womb.

“The alimony I’m giving you is enough to ensure you’re well-off for the rest of your life.”
Gu Jingshen lowered his voice, delivering a cruel summary of my miscarriage.
“It’s better for her this way, not having to grow up in a loveless home. Besides, her mother is such a shameless woman.”
My eyes were bloodshot as I stared at him, my tears already run dry. He picked up the Divorce Agreement, his obsidian cufflinks glinting coldly-they were a gift I had given him for our wedding anniversary.
Perhaps he had long since forgotten.
I murmured under my breath, “I’ve already lost my child, and now she wants to steal my husband too.”
“She doesn’t know about this,” Gu Jingshen’s expression turned suddenly harsh. “If you dare tell her…”
Right. If Jiang Wan found out, someone as ‘kind’ as her would surely be consumed by guilt and wash her face in tears, which would break his heart.
She was clearly nothing more than a shameless homewrecker.

The numbness in my fingertips had spread to my entire body. I reached out to grab his sleeve, but my hand met only empty air.
I tumbled off the bed, hitting the floor with a heavy thud.
The spasms in my heart grew more violent with every beat. I curled into a ball from the pain, cold sweat soaking my hair, unable to utter another word.
“Stop acting like her when she has an episode.”
Gu Jingshen’s voice sounded like it was coming from another world. This man I loved so deeply spoke with unmistakable loathing.
The tips of his shoes were barely half a step away from my twitching fingers, yet he didn’t hesitate for a second as he turned and strode away.

That line of blood-red numbers shuddered violently for a moment, and then-hit zero.
In a dying struggle, I crawled toward the floor-to-ceiling window, my fingernails snapping as I dragged bloody streaks across the carpet. Through the glass, I saw my husband walking toward another woman. He lowered his head slightly, his features softened with tenderness and devotion.
The sunlight left a blurred halo on my irises; this was the final sight I would see.
My vision went black as I waited for death to claim me. Last time it was carbon monoxide poisoning; the time before that, a car accident. This time, I would likely die of a broken heart.
I had personally confirmed seven times now that divorcing Gu Jingshen meant a violent, sudden death.
